Ask the Dust
7:30 PM Red Carpet, 8:00 PM Start
The Santa Barbara International Film Festival is very proud to present the world premiere of Ask the Dust as its 2006 Opening Night Film. Join us for legendary writer and director Robert Towne’s latest film at the historic Arlington Theatre as talent from the film, including star Salma Hayek, make a classic red carpet entrance. Following the film, Sponsors, Celebrity Guests, Platinum Passholders and VIPs are invited to experience the first and largest of the Festival’s exclusive after parties.
As a highly acclaimed screenwriter and director, Robert Towne has been involved with dozens of high-profile films for more than three decades, including Chinatown, Tequila Sunrise, The Firm, and the Mission Impossible series.
Ask the Dust is adapted from John Fante's Depression Era novel about a fiery Mexican beauty, Camilla (played by Salma Hayek), who hopes to rise above her station by marrying a wealthy American. Her plan is complicated when she encounters Arturo Bandini (played by Colin Farrell), a first-generation Italian hoping to land a writing career and a blue-eyed blonde on his arm.
SBIFF is proud to welcome Mr. Towne and star Salma Hayek with lights, cameras and celebration at the Festival’s ultimate kick-off event. Opening Night officially launches the eleven day run of the 21st annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival. We hope to see you there!
